Honouring a Giant: Bongofari Attends Ebo Taylor's One-Week Observation in Saltpond

Location: Saltpond, Central Region, Ghana

On March 14, 2026, Bongofari joined family, fans, and fellow musicians in Saltpond for the traditional "one-week observation" of the late highlife legend and his beloved mentor, Ebo Taylor. The solemn yet celebratory service was held at the Wesley Methodist Church, where the community gathered to honour the life, music, and legacy of a man who shaped Ghanaian sound for over six decades.

Ebo Taylor passed away on February 7, 2026, at the age of 90. His death marked the end of an era for Ghanaian music, but his influence—through countless recordings, collaborations, and the generations of artists he inspired—remains very much alive.

For Bongofari, this was not merely a duty of respect—it was a homecoming of the heart. Ebo Taylor was more than an icon; he was a teacher, an inspiration, and a living archive of Ghana's rich musical heritage. Having worked alongside him as a recording engineer in his formative years, Bongofari credits much of his technical discipline and artistic vision to the quiet wisdom of "Uncle Ebo."

At this deeply meaningful gathering, Bongofari connected with many Ghanaian music icons who had also come to pay their respects to the giant of highlife and Afrobeat. Among the attendees were legendary bandleaders, veteran studio engineers, and a new generation of artists whose work still echoes Taylor's pioneering fusion of traditional rhythms with jazz, funk, and soul. The atmosphere was one of shared grief, but also of gratitude—for the records, for the lessons, and for the unbreakable bond that music creates.

This event served as a powerful reminder of the deep respect and solidarity within Ghana's music community and the enduring influence of Ebo Taylor's legacy. In speeches, songs, and silent prayers, the message was clear: Ebo Taylor may have left the stage, but his rhythm will never fade.

“Standing in that church, surrounded by the very people who learned from him, I felt his presence in every chord and every memory. We didn't just lose a legend—we lost a father. But his music will guide us forever.” — Bongofari

As Bongofari continues his own journey with Odo Reggae, he carries forward the torch lit by Taylor: a commitment to authenticity, innovation, and love for the sounds of Ghana.
